Scotty Lago took the bronze medal - Olympic Halfpipe Semis Results - UPDATE: Complete semi rankings added.

The semi finals are just about finished and the top six, Markus Malin, Gregory Bretz, Scott Lago, Mathieu Crepel, Markku Kaski and Justin Lamoureux, will be joining Shaun White, Ryo Aono, Louie Vito, Peetu Piiroinen, Kazuhiro Kokubo and Iouri Podladtchikov in the finals at 2:15pm today. Ben Mates came in 11th in the semis scoring a 3.6 on his first run and 27.5 on his second. Check back after 2.15pm for finals time!

Bulls Pull Trigger: John Salmons to Milwaukee for Expiring Contracts [NBA Trade Deadline Update]

Hopefully this isn’t the last we’ve heard from the Bulls before tomorrow’s 3pm est deadline, but it’s good news. A few media outlets are reporting that the Bulls have made a deal with the Bucks:The Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks have agreed to a deal in principle that will send John Salmons to the Bucks for the expiring contracts of Kurt Thomas and Francisco Elson, sources said on Wednesday.

As early as this past summer it became clear that in order to clear enough space to make a legitimate run at one of the big 2010 free agents, the Bulls would need to move the contracts of Kirk Hinrich, Luol Deng, and/or John Salmons. Salmons contract, while technically expiring this summer, has a player option for about $6 million. It is presumed that Salmons will pick up that option. Now that he is gone, that clears his salary off the books, which puts the Bulls at just around $20 million under the cap. If they can also move Hinrich (or Deng, though that seems less likely), then they will be in very good shape.

Clearly the Bulls are not that concerned with the current season, as the pieces they got in return are pure garbage. Elson and Thomas, both old big men that can’t play many minutes, will not contribute much to the Bulls, if they contribute at all. What becomes crucial now is that if the Bulls do move Tyrus (which seems imminent), they must get someone like McDyess from San Antonio in return. If not, their already thin frontcourt will get even thinner especially with Noah hobbled by Plantar Fasciitis.

In other trade news, the Bulls still seem to be in the T-Mac sweepstakes, although word is that the Rockets have continued to up the price and may not move him at all. One rumor has the Rockets asking for Taj in the deal, which should kill any deal for the Bulls. Stay posted for more updates as the deadline looms.

John Salmons being traded, not playing tonight -

Bulls management has told Salmons to remain at team hotel as it works to finalize a trade. Won't play vs. Knicks.

Per KC Johnson's Twitter:

Any thoughts on where he might be headed? We've heard very little about where Salmons might be headed, so it's hard to speculate. Orlando for JJ Reddick? [dare to dream].

The deal is almost certainly netting the Bulls an expiring contract in return for Salmons. That locks the Bulls into 2010 max cap space without having to fear for his option. Odds are the Bulls won't get a real usable player back, but one can hope.

This will likely be a trade about the future and not the present. I think the Bulls will miss Salmons personally. He hasn't been great this season, but he's a lot better than Pargo or Brown who will replace him. The Bulls do have games where Salmons carries a decent scoring load for them, and they don't have anyone who's likely to step up and fill that void given their lack of scorers.

Still, you don't let John Salmons hold the franchise's future hostage with his player option even if it costs you a couple games this year. Assuming a trade of Salmons for crap that expires, I say nice deal.

The only real question to me is whether or not the Bulls had to pay draft picks in order to get a team to take Salmons. I'd hope not. I don't think his salary is bad for his productivity, and if we weren't playing 2010 then I wouldn't be looking to move him. Hopefully the Bulls found a team who feels the same way.

sebastian telfair: Clippers to Cleveland ,The NBA trading deadline is Thursday, and the Clippers are staying busy.The Clippers landed veteran forward Drew Gooden from Washington, while shedding reserves guard Sebastian Telfair and forward Al Thornton, according to the Washington Post.As part of this three-team deal, the Wizards sent forward Antawn Jamison to Cleveland, according to the Washington Post and Yahoo.

This apparently means Cleveland did not land forward Amare Stoudemire from Phoenix.

Mike portnoy - Looks like the guys in A7X will have Dream Theater’s Mike Portnoy play on their upcoming album. Avenged drummer Jimmy “The Rev” Sullivan, who died in late December, was a huge fan and greatly influenced by Portnoy.The band stated: “It’s comforting to us that someone like Mike, who is undoubtedly revered as one of the best drummers in the world, held such respect and adoration for the Rev’s abilities.”

Mike portnoy - Whether or not the band will tour with Portnoy or conduct a search for a new drummer is unknown. This will be the first album since 2007’s self-titled effort.

The 911 “truthers” who are convinced the government brought down the twin towers. And the Oath Keepers with their rag tag militia following. They have all found a home in the Tea Party movement. Along with an assortment of racists, anti-immigrant groups, survivalists, secessionists, anti-government conspiracy aficionados, born-again constitutional scholars and your garden variety angry people.

Oath Keepers - I’m sure most Tea Partiers aren’t misguided. But why does this movement attract such a disproportionate share of society’s fanatics?

Do you think someone has put something in the water?

There you go, Tom, you are making trouble. Someone is gonna think that the New World Order really did put something into the water supply and is going to take over our brains.

Just like these Tea Party people I have legitimate concerns about issues like health care and health care reforms. I also harbor doubts about government interference with health care.
